EUTHANASIA: ABORTION AT LIFE'S END

Euthanasia is never very far from the social agenda. It recently made another comeback. In a televised coverage of a protest some time back, I couldn't help but notice the words on one of the signs that was being displayed by the supporters of euthanasia. The words were simple. "MY BODY. MY RIGHT. MY CHOICE".
I have thought a lot about the implications of those few words. I knew I had seen them somewhere before. Then I remembered. They are virtually the same words used to justify the case for abortion. "MY BODY. MY RIGHT. MY CHOICE".
Like a trumpet blast, these words proclaim that we humans are the final authority on all matters - including whose lives that will be permitted to start and those lives will be terminted. They declare that we are the "Supreme Court" and there is no higher authority to which any appeal should or could be made.
Of course, for those who deny or ignore the reality and authority of an Almighty God, this slogan is the only logical position to reach. There is no other authority other than what is right in our own eyes. We are the ones who make the rules, set the standards and determine acceptable conduct. We, in effect, become our own gods, our own final authority.
But what if there is an Almighty God Who has decreed the sacredness of human life? What if He alone reserves the prerogative of those life and death issues? What if He is the final authority to whom we are accountable for choices made and actions taken?
Doesn't such a truth now bring the slogan on that sign into question? If He is the God who created our bodies and breathed life into us, then the slogan is wrong. If this God made us and then paid the supreme price through the death of His Son to "buy us back", then the sign ought to read, "HIS BODY. HIS RIGHT. HIS CHOICE".
It seems to me that here is yet another example of the determination of the human race to evict God from His world, to overthrow His authority and establish a new authority - us! If you are wondering how the new regime is going, take a look around. You're living in it.
