Praying In Truth

Lord God,   I know you seek for those who will worship you in spirit and in truth. But I have a growing sense that I am often less than truthful with you when it comes to prayer.

I read recently that authentic prayer is "truth speaking to truth". Father, do you remember last week when my daughter was in distress and I was earnestly praying for her? Do you recall me saying, "I know you can do more for her than you're doing right now!"I immediately wanted to apologize for being that audacious.

But then I realized that, whatever else might be said, I had at least been truthful. That was how I was feeling right at that moment and I expressed it to you. As I read the Psalms, many of them are super-charged with honesty and truth. Perhaps I am in good company.

You know my heart. You know that I don't mean to be rude, disrespectful or rebellious. But I don't want to be dishonest or less than truthful in the name of politeness or 'spiritual correctness' either.

May the words of my mouth (my spoken prayer) and the meditation of my heart (what I really feel deep within) always be in agreement and, therefore, be pleasing and acceptable to you.

Amen
