Time in Hospital

This week I am to spend 2 or 3 days in hospital undergoing a relatively common surgical procedure. However, when it comes to things medical – especially when it involves time in hospital – I was raised a devout coward. I relate to what the character 'Hawkeye' (from the TV series M.A.S.H) said in this regard, "Our family emblem is a cringing chicken!"

For the first 58+ years of my life I enjoyed near perfect physical health. Hospitals were places where I visited others, not where they visited me. But as I entered the seventh decade of my life on planet earth that run of good health changed. That change brought with it a new appreciation of just what a great blessing a sound mind and a sound body really is. (Well, a sound body anyway. The jury is still out on the 'sound mind' aspect)

As the day draws near for me to undergo this 'common surgical procedure', I am grateful for the fact that every part of my life's experience is under the sovereign hand of God. Despite my natural nervousness about this experience, it is good to be able to place myself afresh into the hands of my Heavenly Father knowing that His grace is sufficient for every situation.

I am also keenly aware of how blessed I am to have the support, understanding (and patience!!) of Bev. Her practical insights as a nurse are a bonus but her steadying presence is a gift beyond measure. What a gift she is in my life.
