Father God, I come and bow before you this morning to pray for our nation. I come to intercede for our national leaders, for those who influence public thinking at such a time as this when we all have this opportunity to own our values.  Our nation seems hell bent on presuming to veto your express word and, in its place, substitute our own alternatives.

Creator God, you have made created us godlike, reflecting your nature. You created us male and female. I recognise that there is a devilish strategy launched against you and it reeks of the smell of sulphur! It comes from The Pit!

You have created us in your image – male and female.  Behind the current publicised issues relating marriage equality, we detect another level of conflict…

For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

We raise up a standard of prayer and realize afresh that our weapons do not belong to the natural world but they are mighty through God to tear down strongholds. But we are in the midst of a spiritual conflict with the evil one whose one and only goal is the blurring of that distinction. Lord, our enemy hates you. He hates your image and is determined to obliterate it wherever it is found.

So, in the light of such a campaign, we bow before you now and call upon you to show mercy on our land and on our people. Lord, the heart cry of Nehemiah is our cry to you this day.

Nehemiah 1:5-7 (NLT)
“O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of unfailing love with those who love him and obey his commands, listen to my prayer! Look down and see me praying night and day for your people Israel. I confess that we have sinned against you. Yes, even my own family and I have sinned!  We have sinned terribly by not obeying the commands, decrees, and regulations that you gave us.”

May the devil’s strategy to confuse our understanding, neutralise our mission be turned back upon himself so that what he intends for our destruction be used by you to expose his intentions.

In such perilous times in years gone by your people, realising the enormity of the threat against them, have cried out to you and then have watched your sovereign hand deliver them from enemy tactics.

We pray that we would see in our generation the mighty hand of our mighty God deliver us from evil

Because thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever and ever…
