What You Sow Is What You Get!
Former film censor now turned porn producer! Rather a radical shift in career choices! But that's who was presented to us in the interview. He was well-dressed, polite, articulate, rational and, seemingly, quite likeable. He defended his new career path with the statistic that 70% of Australians polled said they wanted ready availability of and access to pornographic videos, films and magazines. Even if he was only partially accurate, that is a most revealing statistic.
I wonder if among those 70% are some of the people who gather outside courthouses and who scream for the blood of the rapist and murderer when he is ushered inside the courtroom? You know the criminal I mean; the one who has fed and filled his mind with all kind of erotic images from magazines and videos and then has reached a point where he acts out the erotic energy that he can no longer control.
"But Mike, there's no conclusive proof that there is any connection between pornographic material and those attacks". Oh, come on! Give me a small break!! What constitutes 'proof' for you? You don't have to be a rocket scientist or a Rhodes scholar to see the connection.
If you doubt me, try this test. See if you can find one case - just one - where the perpetrator of sexual crime against women and children has not had a history of involvement in pornographic material. If some of the 70% mentioned above are outside that courthouse, I wonder if they have seen the contradiction they represent? On the one hand, they are saying that we ought to get rid of those sexual monsters who prey on women and children. But, on the other hand, they want to retain the very material that breeds and nurtures those same criminals. Sounds to me a bit like wanting to have your cake and eat it, too.
The bottom line is that we can't have it both ways. As a society, we must make a decision one way or the other. If we demand our right to access pornographic magazines and videos, then so be it. But to then rise up in protest at the crimes that such material generates is the ultimate hypocrisy. The law of the harvest is unchangeable - what you sow is what you get.
