ACTION IN ACTS  (PHASE  3)                                                                                    SESSION  6

      ACTS 17/1 – 23/11

There are some people who believe that there is something ‘glamorous’ about being a preacher or a Pastor”. For Paul it was demanding, involved long hours, much travel and always being on guard against those who would misrepresent his methods, his motives and his message. It seems he could care less about personal attacks on his character. But attacking the message would see people led away from faith in Christ and that Paul could not abide.

Phase 3 of our 4 phase studies will end at Acts 23/11 when our attention will shift to Paul’s final journey to Rome. The intervening material (chapters 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22) provide us with many insights but I am only going to look at the message as Paul presents its in different settings.

Your task is to build a profile of the message or the “Good News” as it is often called. Imagine your Church is wanting to call a new Pastor (possibly Paul) and you and your fellow group members have been assigned the task of reporting what Paul believes as demonstrated by what he preaches.

At this stage you would find greater value from these chapters if you reads them at one sitting. The history and geography makes for informed responses to what is happening.

There are a couple of sections that are insightful when it comes to assessing Paul as a potential Pastor for your Church  e.g. 17/6,7  Can you see any others? You would not want Paul as your Pastor if you were looking for someone who didn’t rock the boat!

It will, more than likely, take longer than one session. So this session (6) will be the last in Phase Three. Don’t feel rushed. I hope you find yourself looking forward to Phase 4.

Now we are ready to move into the last phase of “Action in Acts”.

Acts 23:11 (NLT)
11  That night the Lord appeared to Paul and said, “Be encouraged, Paul. Just as you have been a witness to me here in Jerusalem, you must preach the Good News in Rome as well.”

When God says, You must, you will….
