  • JOURNAL 54

    14 November, 2015

I’ve been wandering through your “Book of Days” again. What a treasure trove it is proving to be! My excuse is that (1) you didn’t say I couldn’t read the contents and (2) It is such a blessing to my own heart.

Last night I was browsing through its pages and I came across this beautiful vow. There was no indication about its origin but it’s obviously been deliberately preserved by you. Even though I couldn’t identify its origin, you obviously kept it as a statement of how you viewed our marriage and the contribution you wanted to make to its fulfilment.

I take you as a gift from God, just as you are,

To be my life-long companion, through tears and laughter

Sickness and health, good times and bad times

I will love you faithfully, constantly and prayerfully, now and forever

I promise to be faithful to you, open and honest with you

I will respect, help, trust and care for you.

Whatever the future holds I will continue to love you, stand by you

And share my life with you.

I will forgive you as we have been forgiven

I will, with you, lead a simple, just and peaceful life

As Christ has called us to live

For the rest of my life I will keep these promises I have made to you.

    Beautiful!

I have been thinking a lot about our life together. There’s so much that I miss yet so much for which I am extremely grateful. I recall the many times we said to each other how thankful we ought to be for what we have because we are aware that many, many people know little or nothing of what we have shared together.

A perfect marriage? There is no such thing. But a fulfilling marriage? Definitely! The birth of our children and their lives and achievements. The privilege of being called into Ministry. Family holidays. Travel overseas.

Well, I thank God for the gift of memory…..and I’ll write again soon

    But Until Then

You remain the love of my life

    Mike
